What is EchoLight?Â
The next generation of health care. Created as a spin-off of the Italian National Research Council, EchoLight is at the forefront of medical innovation. A new era in bone densitometry EchoLight offers an innovative radiation-free solution for assessing the bone condition of the lumbar vertebrae and femoral neck with a quick scanning using proprietary R.E.M.S technology.Â
How EchoLight is Different:
SELF REFERRAL:Â
The cost of service is not covered by insurance, and therefore there is no requirement for a medical professional referral. We welcome medical referrals but they are not necessary and the patient can refer themselves.Â
REMS vs DXA:Â
REMS addresses many of the shortcomings of DXA:
- Calculates a more accurate level of bone density
- Is more sensitive to change in bone density so can assess treatment programs more frequently
- DXA requires a change of 5-6% in bone density whereas REMS can detect changes of 0.5-1% or 400-900% increase in sensitivity.
- DXA requires about 1-2 years to see a difference whereas REMS can see change in 3-6 months.Â
NO RADIATION:
DXA utilizes x-rays to assess bone health, REMS utilizes ultrasound to assess bone health so it is safe for everyone.
MORE INFO THAN DXA:
REMS not only assesses the density of bone but also assesses the microarchitecture of the bone to assess the quality of the bone.
This assessment is expressed numerically in a fragility index. This value is combined with the calculated density score to produce a 5 year risk factor of fracture.Â
IMMEDIATE REPORTING:
REMS utilizes a database of over 100,000 patients to peform required calculations for a bone density score. The analysis of the received information concerning the microarchitecture is also done immediately. This allows the system to produce a complete report in less than 2 minutes following the conclusions of the exams (80 second scan for the spine and 40 second scan for the hip).Â
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. How Long is the Test?
 - Only 20 Minutes!
Q. How does it work?
- Ultrasound pulses are emitted into the spine and/or femur neck and the echoes travelling back from the bone are analyzed by the system to calculate the density of the bone and the fragility of the bone. This information is combined to produce a 5 year risk of major orthopedic fracture.Â
Q. How often can I perform the test?
- Because it is ultrasound based and paid by the patient, the test can be performed as often as requested. It is recommended that 3-6 months be utilized as a guideline to detect sufficient change for the bone.Â
Q. What information will I leave with?Â
The system performs all the required analyses of the acquired information and produces a report within 2 minutes of the scan being completed.
Q. Do you interpret results during the exam?
- There is no need to interpret the results as the system does that immediately following the completion of the exam, the results can be reviewed with you following the exam if requested.Â
